A Message From Pastor Chris: Thanksgiving Should Be Everyday
The relationships we have with others should be wide paths of gratitude and thanksgiving. Too often we get bogged down in the information on our interactions. Even when we do recall to say “thank you” to one another, we’re virtually consistently referring to favor or just one activity.

How frequently might we manage to thank an individual not simply for something they’ve done, but for who they are and for what they actually mean to us?
I’m reminded of a story in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus heals 10 lepers of their afflictions in considering this. Of the 10 who are healed, only one makes the attempt to say “thank you.” But he isn’t merely saying thank you for the healing. Because of what’s happened, he falls down and praises God. It’s clear he understands who Jesus really is. Jesus even recognizes this by declaring the man’s religion has made him well, beyond the easy curing of the disease. By offering thanks and compliments, the man revealed that he valued what was done for him, but that he wanted to maintain relationship with God from that day forwards.

As we gather with our families and friends for the coming holidays and Thanksgiving, we are given the same chance as this man who had been cured by Jesus. We must go beyond simply thanking individuals for what they’ve done, although we have the possibility showing gratitude to the folks in our own lives. If we need the people we care about to understand how significant they may be to us, then we should tell them. We have to thank them for purely being children, parents, our friends, siblings, relatives or whatever they might be. If we want those relationships to be as profound so that as purposeful as they should be, then they have to be cherished way above anything else we value or appreciate.

All the nice things in our lives flow in the relationships we have with other, and particularly from that significant relationship that we have with God. So, this year let’s not just for what they’ve done thank people.
